*internally laughing head off*

It's unpleasant of me, I know, but I'm reading the March 14 LJ Releases post - and by gad am I glad that I post from Dreamwidth alone these days.

This. This is just a glorious trainwreck of user discontent, buggy interfaces, and insanity. It's like Fandom Wank at its finest...
(And yes, I shouldn't find it entertaining, but - damn, did I switch to crossposting while the getting was good!)

Now, an additional problem - when I try to 'select' a line or word to put it in bold, the cursor goes immediately to the bottom of the page. WHY???
This has happened repeatedly.
Sometimes, starting from the end of the word or sentence and 'selecting' works but why should it be necessary to find ways around wonky LJ posting peculiarities?
Just. FIX. them please. And, leave other things alone.

***

And why have you changed the handy feature that enabled us to put links in as highlighted text without the URL showing? It's gone back to inserting the URL by default, I now have to edit the HTML to get the text that I want to show instead of the URL.

***

I have never been able to figure out exactly what triggers a message telling me that there's an element that LJ doesn't like and won't let me post. I don't understand why you would permanently check the "open in a new window" box in the visual editor and leave it unchangeable. I don't want things to open in a new window. I never heard either way from readers, but if I want to keep something like that, I should not have to flip between the Visual Editor and HTML tabs to get rid of it.

***

I'm tired of being nice and respect developer's work, I'm tired of keeping my anger on check: FUCK YOU WITH YOUR SCREWING UP OF A SITE THAT HAS ALWAYS WORKED SO FINE BEFORE YOU DECIDED IT HAD TO HAVE A MORE FACEBOOK-LIKE LOOK!

***

Community entries go missing from my friends page, the order is completely messed up. WTF did you do?

***

gehayi

I'm hanging on here for ONE community. Just one. And I'm desperately trying to talk the mod into creating a mirror on Dreamwidth. The day that happens, I'm gone, and good riddance. There's nothing on LJ worth staying for.

***

Also are you ever going to fix it so that I can post from my mobile phone without having to be logged in? You know, because your effing age-verification script doesn't work.

***

what the fuck are you doing honestly?

***

I think they may genuinely have used an actual goat called 'Frank' to beta test it.

***

Suddenly as of today, people can no longer crosspost from DW. There is absolutely NO chance of this happening by accident. I don't even have a DW account, and yet here I am going WTF?!

***

I WON'T ADD MY DETAILED BITCHING ON THE FUGLY FRIENDS PAGE - BECAUSE I AGREE WITH ALL COMPLAINTS!

***

Idk if it's been brought up but my feed breaks when someone uses blockquotes. I use Chrome.

***

I pay for my journal so I can have a custom header - which I want to see on my fucking Friends page!

***

I'm wondering if even the advertising bots will start to bail.

***

There's been an error with image borders for a long time if you try to use the "Insert Photo" specs to add it- I've been having to do the HTML for that by hand for months... it's missing the " border-style: solid;"

[Miscellaneous Russian users screaming that they want an LJ Release post in Russian, thankyouverymuch.]

***

example:
john, peter and mary are on my f-list and have written entries that i can see if i visit their journals.
1st time i refresh my f-list, none of those entries come up.
2nd time i refresh my f-list, only mary's new entry comes up
3rd time i refresh my f-list, only john's and peter's entries come up. mary's has disappeared
4th time i refresh my f-list, only peter's entry comes up. mary's and john's have disappeared.

***

i still have difficulties typing in this new comment page because my SPACEBAR won't work. i have to type my comment somewhere else and then paste it here every freaking time otherwise
itwilllooklike this.

***

I think the fact that I can see that there are 281 comments posted here in 6 pages, but I can't see ANY of the comments is a pretty big glitch. I'd say this is something that needs to be fixed ASAP.

(IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM: Use NoScript to forbid everything but Google.com and LiveJournal.com on LJ pages. As you might remember, that actually was part of what caused me to bail to Dreamwidth before I used that fix.)

***

Do you really want LJ looking like 'OMG I took three lessons of HTML and look at my first site yay!!!1!'

***

And furthermore, do not add me to communities without my permission. I see no point in belonging to your "paid members" group, especially since said community hasn't been updated for nearly two years.

***

It has been almost a year!!! How can you still not have fixed the ScrapBook??? How difficult is it to put in some simple editing and ordering tools for the photo albums, so that I can re-arrange the photos or organize the albums by date, and fix the nearly unusable mess you have left my journal in???

***

Profiles WERE FINE. Were you guys not taught ANYTHING in marketing or web design classes?

***

The profile page says "Mutual Cfriends" under communities for some reason.

***

Is it possible that due to your latest changes I can't see many of the icons and wallpapers anymore I created and posted in my LJ for others to see? At least, when I look at my old posts I see a lot of placeholders but no icons and wallpapers anymore. I hope you'll rectify that.

***

I so admire the so '90s gradients and the too-large font that makes the profile 1. ugly and 2. difficult to read. Your use of whitespace and buttons is to say it mild, astonishingly old school. Fine if you are going for an amateurish and bland look that anyone with a HTML for Dummies could produce in half an hour.

***

CHANGE NAME IN LIVEFACEBOOK SO YOU ARE FINALLY HAPPY.

***

If you could wait until my paid time runs out before switching off the "old style" f-list page that would be swell, because once my YEARS OF WRANGLING WITH THE @#$%^&!@# LAYOUT AND THEME CODES TO MAKE THEM MORE USER-FRIENDLY AND PAYING FOR THAT PRIVILEGE, TO BOOT is gone I will be likewise taking my leave.

***

Maybe I should look into transfering all my stuff over to that dreamwidth account I got years ago.
Do it! It's easy and they're friendly and responsive and it looks just like LJ before LJ got a Russian lobotomy.

***

I guess I'll start begging all the communities I'm a member of to switch to dreamwidth or better yet is there a community or person so powerful that even lj can't go against? Maybe ONTD?

***

A minute ago I had 50 mutual friends, then 87, then up to 88 (the correct number), now back down to 50. It's telling me I'm a member of 32 communities, but have posting access in 111.

***

I can only imagine how light sensitive / suffering from migraines people must feel.

I had [the new feed] up for under ten seconds, and I have a migraine coming on as a result.

Real user-friendly, guys.

***

Which is to be expected as the current policy of the developers seems to be "uglier is better".

***
Just so you know, I had an unsettling experience earlier this morning.

I replied to a comment in a friend's public entry on my phone.
I got a confirmation page saying that my comment had been posted anonymously (apparently I was logged out while I wasn't looking).
The page changed to some blank page that I assume was an ad thing because the domain looked really dubious basically immediately.
The ad page then tried to open Google Play (which didn't work because my phone was roaming, and background data is required for Play, and disabled while I'm roaming).
I chose to quit. This landed me back on the ad page, which obligingly tried to open Google Play again (same results).

Half-asleep flailing ensued where I closed the browser and then tried to open it again; at that moment my phone chose to pop back out of roaming, and it was then that I learned that one of LJ's ad providers would like me to download Candy Crush Saga. I did not want. More flailing, and my phone's antivirus told me that it was checking some new program, but I got no notification that a program had been installed.

In case this was not behavior that LJ appreciates from their advertisers, I thought you should know.

[Holy shit. I got that bizarre posted-as-anonymous behavior several times a few weeks ago (around the time after the update) - is THAT what would have been awaiting me if I hadn't had NoScript blocking literally everything but the bare minimum to use the site? I - damn. I knew LJ was incredibly annoying even three years ago (back when I hadn't discovered AdBlockPlus or NoScript) - but now it's become a malware site? D:]

***

Er, hello. The news link you provided in the email is Access Denied.

***

*EPIC WIN*
(If you're reading this post, please check the above link. You can see the numerical rot. It's tragic, but - how can LJ not notice this?)

***
Surely your designers must be familiar with usability? i can't believe anyone in this day and age is not. It boggles my mind if they are not.

Judging by Igrick's past behaviour, their designers aren't familiar with having users.

***

Huh.

Not as many negative comments as usual. (OTOH, the really frustrated people have been worn down or have gone away, as a guess)

On the other hand, *all* the comments are negative.

***

After you introduced the new updates page I told myself I would test it for a period of time before commenting. Now that I have used it for some time I find it slow (to load and use and update), awkward to use, and cumbersome.

***

And why the hell aren't these releases adequately tested before they go live? The number of bug fixes you have to do every time is beyond belief.

***

I certainly would raise a glass but maybe we better arrange for LJ's funeral, instead...

***

I've noticed this too on most people's profiles :/ It seems to have automatically and irreversibly inserted double spacing in a lot of coding for one thing. I had to delete a few lines from the code in my profile since there was no longer "room" for them in the text box I'm using, when there was never an issue before.

***

Have you ever heard of such a thing called "testing"?

***

Aaaand in summary of the whole thing:

But it wouldn't be LJ if they didn't "fix" everything that people like!
